    Description

Antique Figural Lady Gilded Silver Needle Case
    French * Circa 1830
This solid silver figural needle case is a special one. It's in the form of a lady in traditional costume, complete with a veil over her curly hair. I've seen this needle case before and one
    is
shown on p. 90 of Nerylla Taunton's book
    Antique Needlework Tools and Embroideries.
This one is unusual though for a couple of reasons.
She is gilded with gold, something I've not seen before. Also she has a clear French rabbit head hallmark that dates her between 1819-1838. These ladies are frequently not marked.  Her details are lovely with embossed lace on her skirts and bodice and a pearl necklace. The condition is excellent with no dents, splits or other damage and she measures 2 3/4" high.
