I believe this may have been originally made for a small folding eyeglass case; however, I've use this beautiful case for my hand sewing and quilting needles for decades. It's ideal for this purpose. It measures about 2" X 4" roughly and feels very substantial to the hand. It opens and closes securely with no issues. It is marked STERLING on the edge of the case when opened.
